- What makes a good story? Why tell stories anyway, aren't they old hat?
- What does it mean to tell good stores in the online environment?
- What happens when you mix online and offline modes?
- What about games?
All these questions answered - or at least considered!
This site is a place for me to talk about storytelling in many forms. I've been working on stage plays, screen plays and fiction for over twenty years and it still fascinates me. In the last ten years I have been online and have been thinking about telling stories through the web. Even more recently I have been looking at using 'pervasive technologies' to tell stories in space.
I will also keep posting about my work and discoveries made as well as considering the whole business of writing - and producing.
More about me...
I am yet another actor turned playwright/screenwriter. I graduated from the NZ Drama School in 1991, but prior to this I attended both Bill Manhire's creative writing course at Victoria Uni and Roger Hall's playwrighting course at Otago. After graduating I acted around Wellington, did a bit of TV and film, but always felt more interested in rehearsal and the text than performing per se.
First writing success came in 1994 when my first play, 'The Vampyre Dances' was selected for the Oceania Playwrights Festival and later premiered on the main stage at Circa theatre in 1996.
Since then 'Deviations' has been seen in Australia (Currong and LaMama) in 2000 and my historical drama about the Furlough Incident 'Fond Love and Kisses' was seen at Downstage in 2003. Other work includes two radio plays 'Weightless' and 'Ride on Time' as well as a produced short film 'Taking a bath'.
I live in London and have a day job as a web guy. Currently I am learning to write films and my third effort 'Boy on a bike' might actually be worth showing people.
I am also working on a stage comedy about kiwi actors working on Lord of the Rings conventions called 'My Inner Orc' and a low-budget thriller set.... well, somewhere spooky!
