Tagline: When an oil rig drills deep into her heart Mother Nature decides to fight back...
Second draft report
Phew - made it to the end of the second draft of Bitch (only 7 to go then?!).
Quite happy with how this has gone as it involved major surgery on draft one. Draft one was all about a guerilla film shoot on an oil rig where it turned out the lead actor was a little obsessed with the director - to the point of killing off all his perceived rivals in pursuit of her. That one was called 'Cut to Black'.
I got some feedback on it from a competition and a few friends and everyone loved the setting and the deaths, but that was about it. It didn't really say anything (and horror films always have to say something, mostly about growing up - see my article).
So draft two was a top-to-toe rewrite. I kept the setting and the major characters but added a new protagonist 'Mother Earth'. Adding a supernatural element really freed me up to go in big directions and it's been a blast to write. This version has quite a bit more action and adventure in it too. Which kinda blows the low-budget thing, but this is meant to be a sample script so that's no big deal.
I am a little worried about the title as despite is being extremely apt there are some overtones in it which are just a little misogynist. But then this is a horror movie aimed at teen boys right :-)
Want to read it?
Anyway you can read it if you like, in full, by downloading it below... I ask nothing but that you email me some suggestions if you want to. Otherwise enjoy... if reading about people being creatively killed is your thing of course!
And now...
I get to write something new, hooray! I am not starting my next draft on the Coming of Age feature until I get yay or nayed by the NZ Film Council for funds to do so, so the next thing is going to be a sample for TV, probably the pilot 60 minutes of a 6 part drama. Did I hear anyone say 'red planet?' - top of the class to you!
