I am aware that I have been a little quiet of late, so thought I would share a bit of what's going on...
So I went on holiday about 6 weeks ago and when I got back just didn't seem to be using twitter anymore. Hmmmm, weird, since I really like it. While I was away I decided I would be doing a lot more cycling in the Autumn and have been doing about three rides a week. This inevitably eats into my writing and making money time so Twitter has suffered as I sit down and stick to it.
Twelvepoint.com
The other thing about twitter is that it's very brief (no kidding) and I find myself wanting to write longer posts so I have been contributing again on the forums at Twelvepoint.com where there are a dedicated band of posters, many of whom are about my 'level' and who have good things to say about screen writing. There is a bit of a push on at the moment to get people to go to the Script Writer's Festival but sadly I will not be going this year.
My writing
I've also been pushing through a major rewrite on a horror script so have had the hatches battened down for that. It's a lot of fun writing horror but I have pretty much taken myself out of small budget with this last draft, so this one is going to be for competitions and spec duty.
Now I get to decide what to write next: The gritty stage play, the action movie, the play about musicians, the Romcom about the woman with MPD... So many choices. I should probably sit down and write a radio play or two - or even better just think up some stories and send them around.
And my stage play that everyone seems to love in NZ is just grinding to a halt on production - no one can seem to bring themselves to commit to doing it. This is very frustrating and being in the UK means I don't get to bump into people and jiggle it all along. Plus London reading seems to have disappeared too... grrrrrr....
Good news is that Producer of 'An Immaculate Boy' has put in an application to Film NZ for rewrite money, so we'll see how that goes down.
PhD
Every few years I contemplate this and I think it is a great idea but I struggle to define what it is I want to spend three years of my life studying - well yes, writing, but what about it exactly?!
And so that's it. Not hugely exciting and a bit of stalling happening in NZ, so it's time to get motivated and crack into a new project or two...
