A way of thinking about psychology that uses a system of archetypes (Hero, Shadow, Goddess, Wise Old Man, Animus, Anima, Trickster, Shapeshifter) to articulate how an individual psychology encounters situations and integrates archetypal influences to become whole.
While Jung studied under Freud he broke away - the key differences between the two are around sexualisation ad the idea of a shared or social memory that could sustain Archetypes. Such thinking is not Freudian, in Freud there would not be a universal symbolic function to the notion of The Mother - there would just be the subjects involvement with their own mother.
